Citroen-C4-1

The Citroen C4 has been given a series of small, blink-and-you'll-miss-it updates, in a somewhat vague attempt to boost the four-year-old French C-segmenter's under-the-radar image.

Exterior changes are limited to new head- and tail lights with revised "light signatures" – the latter receive three-dimensional graphics that mimic those used on newer DS3 models –  as well as new 17-inch "Miami" that appear to have been nicked from the Peugeot 408. Two new exterior colours – Platinum Grey and Spirit Grey – make the C4's colour palette nine-strong.

At least the interior has gained some more significant improvements. There's a new seven-inch central touchscreen display for the infotainment system that controls navigation, media and telephone functions, as well as vehicle settings. Also added is an optional massage function for the driver's seat, as well as keyless entry and push-button start.

One area that has been properly modernised is the C4's new range of Euro 6-compliant engines. You now get a 110 PS/205 Nm version of PSA Peugeot Citroen's new PureTech 1.2 litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine that joins the 130 PS model introduced in March, delivering 4.7 litres per 100 km combined as well as emitting 110 g per km of carbon dioxide.

Added to that, there is a new 1.6 litre BlueHDi four-pot turbodiesel in either 99 PS/254 Nm or 120 PS/300 Nm guises, the latter producing a combined fuel consumption figure of 3.6 litres per 100 km while mustering carbon dioxide emissions of just 95 g per km.
