This is the first official teaser of the upcoming Proton Global Small Car (GSC), also known internally as the P2-30A. A glimpse of the five-door hatchback's (projector) headlamps appear at the end of the national carmaker's Raya 2014 ad, with the caption "Nantikan Kemunculannya" which translates roughly to "wait for it to surface".
In other words, coming soon. But we know that already, because we've been following this trail and updating you for a long time now. Our most recent set of spyshots came out earlier this week, where two units were spotted in the KLIA mosque, one showing a blue exterior colour for the first time. We also have exclusive spyshots of the car's interior and dashboard.
The B-segment hatch, which will take on Malaysia's most popular car, the Perodua Myvi (not P2's upcoming "Axia" new model, which is smaller), won't be bargain basement cheap though. "Now Proton wants to produce cars which are of world standard, but you have to pay a higher price. You can't have a good car and pay a bad car price," Proton chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was quoted as saying last month.
"The new model was expected to be cheaper compared to other models in the same segment, because that is what a Proton is supposed to be. However, the prices have to be raised a little because customers are paying for something better," he said last week, adding to the same topic. Browse our archive of P2-30A a.k.a. GSC stories to see more.
