Nissan will be unveiling a C-segment hatchback for the European market next week, and it will be called the Nissan Pulsar. Yes, a Nissan Pulsar hatch exists already.

The current Nissan Pulsar that is sold in countries like Thailand and Australia (but not Europe) is basically a hatchback version of the Nissan Sylphy (recently launched in Malaysia) that was first introduced in 2011.

Most buyers will be looking for a Pulsar with either a 1.6 litre or 1.8 litre normally aspirated engine, but there's even a 'hot hatch' Pulsar DIG Turbo powered by a 190 horsepower, 240 Nm 1.6 litre turbocharged engine, mated to a CVT gearbox.

Although many publications are saying this is a completely new model for Europe, given Nissan's recent trend in merging model line-ups instead of separating them by region, we think there is also the possibility that this could be the 2011 Pulsar given a significant facelift.

The teaser image above shows that the new Pulsar gets the new 'V-motion' grille that has already appeared on new Nissan SUVs such as the X-Trail, Qashqai and Murano.

The new V-motion grille is the new face of Nissan, replacing the outgoing 'kamishimo' trapezoid grille on cars like the current Pulsar, Sylphy, Teana and Almera.
