Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) has recorded a 24% jump in sales for the first six months of 2014 compared to the same period last year, registering a total of 4,536 units from January to June. The increase was led by Mercedes-Benz passenger vehicles, which registered 3,366 units, a growth of 48%.

The 1H2014 growth was spearheaded by two models that were launched in March - the CLA and S-Class. The CLA appeals to a new target group and accounted for 7% of total sales, while the W222 S-Class registered an amazing 126% increase.

"This uptrend is expected to continue into the second half. It is a direct result of our various investments internally, as well as our extensive dealer network. In addition, our four-year extended warranty programme, which came into effect last year, is getting good response from customers," said MBM president and CEO Roland Folger.

"It has been a most exciting first half. From the S 400 L Hybrid qualifying and receiving full duty exemptions; to breaking ground on our new customised warehouse located in Pekan; to having the Minister of Youth and Sports officiate the 30th anniversary celebrations of our Apprentice Training Centre in Glenmarie. We are also very happy to be contributing to the increase in Mercedes-Benz global sales figures," Folger added.

On the global scale, Mercedes-Benz posted the strongest half-year sales results in the company's history, handing over 783,520 vehicles to customers worldwide from January to June.

"Mercedes-Benz Malaysia remains highly committed to the Malaysia market; to growing and supporting our dealer network; and of course, to our customers. With the local assembly of the S 400 L Hybrid currently well underway, we also hope to contribute in helping Malaysia fulfil its ambition of becoming a regional EEV hub," Folger concluded.
