Alfa Romeo's business plan will includes eight vehicles to serve as a catalyst to increase its global annual sales to 400,000 by 2018. As of now, Alfa only sells two volume models, the Giulietta and MiTo subcompact in Europe and two variants of the low production 4C sports car globally, which all amounted to less than 70,000 units sold in 2014.

Sergio Marchionne, CEO of Alfa parent Fiat Chrysler Automobiles told Automotive News Europe that the company has already spent almost 2 billion euros of the 5 billion euros allocated by FCA on the Giorgio rear-wheel drive platform used by the Giulia, including its powertrains and production start-up costs.

Reports suggest that Alfa Romeo will add a Giulia Coupe and Spider variants between 2017 and 2018, and these models will offer high-performance engines, including a Ferrari-derived V6.

Marchionne also added that Alfa's Giorgio architecture could be used for other rear-wheel drive models within the Fiat Chrysler range, but did not specify which ones. "We are taking a very hard look at the sequencing of the products that we are launching to make sure that we get the biggest bang for the buck from the utilisation of the architecture in terms of volumes," he said.

Other than the upcoming Alfa SUV, it is believed that the brand's future product line-up will incorporate a large flagship sedan that will go head-to-head with the Audi A6 and BMW 5 Series. Supplier sources indicate that the sedan is due to enter production in late 2017, with a larger SUV and two compact models to replace the Giuletta slated for production in 2018.
