The Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) has released the overall vehicle production and sales data for the month of July 2015. A total of 58,646 units were sold last month (passenger and commercial vehicles combined), which is 2.1% or 1,209 units higher than in June this year.
Unfortunately, that's not the whole story. While it's a positive move month-on-month, the total sales figure for July 2015 is 2.7% or 1,623 units less than what the industry achieved in the same month last year.
Year-to-date numbers look just as gloomy. A total of 380,830 vehicles have been sold between January and July 2015, compared to 393,425 units in the same period last year. That's a 3.2% or 12,595 unit drop, year-on-year.
Last month, the MAA had revised downwards its TIV forecast for 2015, from the original 680,000 to 670,000 units. Still, 670k is 0.5% higher than the 2014 TIV of 666,465. Whether this can be achieved, remains to be seen.
