Volkswagen Malaysia officially launched the VW Beetle Club Edition at its Glenmarie showroom this evening. Priced at RM153,620 OTR without insurance, the Mexican made Beetle Club is limited to 50 units. It was previewed at the Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week last week.
No mechanical changes on this Bug, which means under that curved hood lies a 1.2 litre TSI engine with 105 PS and 175 Nm of torque from 1,550 to 4,100 rpm. The turbocharged direct-injection four-pot is mated to a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch gearbox. The benchmark 0-100 km/h sprint is despatched in 10.9 seconds on to a top speed of 180 km/h.
Based on the top 1.2 TSI Sport with Luxury pack (bi-xenons, DRLs, Vienna leather), the Beetle Club Edition comes in the distinctive Habanero Orange Metallic paint with side mirrors in black.
Paint aside, it also stands out from regular Bugs with 17-inch "Ravenna" multi-spoke alloys in Sterling Silver with 215/55 rubber. One also gets side sills with a chrome strip and a decorative sticker above it with "Club" lettering.
Inside, the Club Edition gets a matching black and Calypso Orange theme for the leather sport seats, with the bright colour also appearing as stitching on the armrest, gear lever boot, hand brake and steering wheel. The latter also gets a "Club" insignia on the bottom spoke. Also applied is a "Twist Wave Dark" cubic film over the dash and centre console for a faux carbon look. The touchscreen head unit is a Composition Media system.
The previous special edition Beetle was the Bug Edition announced in April. That 200-unit variant was cheaper, but less well equipped than the Club.
