Those who travel to and from KL city centre and Klang Valley residents, take note. Five major roads in the capital will be closed for traffic from Friday to Sunday for the inaugural KL City Grand Prix.

The roads are Jalan Ampang, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan Raja Chulan, Jalan Perak and Jalan P. Ramlee, and they will be closed from 7.30am to 6pm during the three-day event. During these hours, only cars with stickers or those with urgent dealings will be allowed in the area. Bus routes will be adjusted.

"Traffic at seven locations will be detoured and face access control and they are Jalan Sultan Ismail/Jalan Raja Abdullah, Jalan Ampang/Jalan Dang Wangi, Jalan Raja Chulan/Jalan P. Ramlee, Jalan Bukit Bintang/Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan Sultan Ismail/Jalan Raja Chulan and Jalan Yap Kwan Seng/Jalan Mayang," KL Public Order Department head Datuk Wan Abdul Bari Wan Abdul Khalid said.

"Yes, we know there will be traffic jams, but it does not mean you won't be able to move at all. Traffic movement will be slow. So, the best thing will be to take the Monorail or LRT," the PDRM man told reporters. Prasarana has said that it is ready to increase the frequency of trains on both its LRT (Kelana Jaya and Ampang) and KL Monorail lines, if needed.

Wan Abdul Bari said the authorities would make concessions for those who work at companies located along the roads that were due for closure and control access during the event. "However, they will need an access card to enter the area. These cards are issued by the organiser. You can collect them at the media centre in Shangri-La Hotel Kuala Lumpur," he explained. Controlled access will be given to people living in the area.

Police will work with the City Hall team to monitor the situation, and 200 police personnel have been assigned to monitor traffic for each shift during the race days. This is in addition to 500 race marshals.

Motorists can contact the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Operations Room at 03-20719777, Kuala Lumpur City Hall hotline at 03-26179378 and race organiser GT Global Race (M) Sdn Bhd at 03-6201271 for enquiries on road closures and diversions.

The inaugural KL City Grand Prix will include the one-make Lamborghini Super Trofeo Cup, Formula Masters and the KL GT City Cup, as well as an exhibition run of the Australian V8 Supercars series. The latter is set to become a proper full championship round for four years starting from 2016. More info on the race, post-race concert and tickets here.
