Motor Image has issued a nationwide recall for several units of the CKD Subaru XV, 2013 Subaru Forester and 2012 Subaru Impreza - the latter does not include the WRX and WRX STI. The recall, originally issued by Fuji Heavy Industries, aims to address concerns over a potential flaw in the assembly of the wiring harness and metal plating located beneath the steering column cover.
During driving, said harness and metal plate may rub against one another, causing premature wear to the coating on the harness. Should the coating get sanded down enough, wires within may become exposed which in turn, might lead to a short circuit.
Should it occur, operations of the wiper, headlamps and horn may be disrupted. In a more severe case, said flaw might lead to the stalling of the engine. As such, Motor Image has stated that models sold in Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Indonesia are affected.
Owners affected by the recall will be proactively contacted by Motor Image and advised to bring their respective vehicles to rectify the issue. Should there be damage to the harness, the repairs are expected to take a little over seven hours. If only the coating is affected, work is expected to take less than an hour.
