Petronas has announced that Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton has been appointed as the company's technical performance consultant for its Primax line of fuels at a press conference today.
In this role – following on the heels of his appointment in the same position for Syntium lubricants – Hamilton will assist in the development of Primax fuels, providing input through his expertise and experience throughout the 2014 Formula 1 season. The new 1.6 litre turbocharged V6 engines and emphasis on reducing fuel consumption this season is expected to make Formula 1 more relevant to road users.
"Together with Hamilton, we test the performance of Petronas Primax within the world's toughest motorsport laboratory, Formula 1," said Petronas Dagangan Berhad (PDB) managing director and CEO Mohd. Ibrahimnuddin Mohd. Yunus. "As always, the result will be transferred from the race tracks to the roads to benefit Malaysian drivers."
Hamilton said that he was thrilled to be offered the role, adding that it was his privilege to share his knowledge and work with Petronas on its products.
"We are currently working on perfecting the formulation of the enhanced Petronas Primax to ensure every drop delivers optimum performance and improved lap times," said Hamilton.
