Bentley-SUV-003-2

Bentley's new SUV will be known as the Bentayga, if a Dutch daily newspaper has gotten it right - the De Telegraaf's motoring section, Autovisie, has reported that Crewe's first 4x4 will supposedly carry the name of a particular rock formation from the Canary Islands.

First showcased as a study in the form of the EXP 9 F Concept in 2012, the SUV - which has been spied running evaluation trials and very faintly teased through a video earlier this month - is expected to make its debut in 2016. It's set to ride on the MLB Evo platform from the Volkswagen Group. The platform also equips the next-gen Audi Q7 - which was spied again earlier this week - that's likely to premiere in Detroit in January.

The powertrain lineup should mirror that announced for the EXP 9 F, with things led by the 616 hp and 800 Nm 6.0 litre twin-turbo W12 engine from the Flying Spur, and the 507 hp and 660 Nm Audi-sourced 4.0 litre twin-turbo V8 which features in the Continental GT V8 is also expected to feature. A V6 plug-in hybrid variant is also on the cards, due sometime in 2017.

Bentley Bentayga. Has a rather quaint ring to it, no? If the moniker holds true, it certainly opens up the possibility of it being given an affectionate-sounding Ben Ben nick. Which makes it sound almost cuddly.
