kia-kx3-concept-1

Say hello to the Kia KX3 concept, a B-segment SUV which has just received its debut at the 2014 Guangzhou motor show. Before you rush down to the nearest Kia showroom, let it be known that the car is only a concept for now and will only be sold in China should production goes online.

Plans are reportedly in motion for the car to be assembled by Dongfeng Yueda Kia (DYK) as competitors in its class from Great Wall and Chery are already outselling foreign rivals like the Ford EcoSport - a rarity in China judging from their love of foreign brands.

Under the hood, a 1.6 litre, turbocharged four-cylinder engine is to be found. Mated to it is a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission responsible for sending power to all four wheels. Dimensions for the prototype measure in at 1,630 mm in height, 4,260 mm in length and 1,765 mm in width. Boot capacity is 400 litres.

Additional details include an interior that has "a high level of standard equipment" and the car itself being engineered to achieve a five-star rating in the C-NCAP programme. That's quite a lot of R&D for what Kia is now calling just a concept - would be a shame to let it all go to waste, right?
