This is the third generation Toyota Alphard, rumoured to debut on January 26 next year. Some presentation slides and a single front three-quarter photo of the new Alphard have made its way onto the internet, so we get an early peek. What do you think of how the new Alphard looks?
The transformation from second gen to third gen isn't as big as how the Alphard transformed from the original first generation, so this update is more evolutionary than revolutionary. On the front end, the Alphard gets a new massive grille similiar to the Toyota Crown's.
Perhaps the Vellfire will take a more sportier route to its looks then? One of the slides show the rear end of the Vellfire, but there's no front end to be seen yet. The Vellfire's tail lamps are clear just like the current one, while the Alphard's are red.
Reports have shared that the new Alphard will be 60 mm longer and 20 mm wider than the current one, while its height will be lower by 10 mm. It's 2,950 mm wheelbase will also be increased by 50 mm to 3,000 mm, which will allow it to match the Nissan Elgrand's wheelbase.
The Alphard and Vellfire should continue to be offered with either a 2.4 litre four-cylinder engine paired to a CVT gearbox, or a 3.5 litre V6 paired to a six-speed automatic. I don't think the 2.4 will be downsized to a 2.0 like the new Harrier considering the Alphard is a larger car designed to carry more people.
As for any increase in output, we'll just have to wait until the official launch for the official details.
