The BMW Concept M4 GTS has been revealed ahead of its physical debut at the 2015 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. Set to preview a road-going racer, the production version of said concept will follow on in the footsteps of its track-optimised ancestors which include the BMW M3 CRT, M3 GTS and M3 CSL.
Should the term 'Concept' in its name put you off, fret not. Those familiar with the operations of the brand will understand that most of its previewed show cars end up looking pretty much the same as the finished article - which is no bad thing. For starters, the BMW Concept M4 GTS features a Frozen Dark Grey Metallic scheme coupled to staggered 19- and 20-inch '666 M' light alloy wheels with Acid Orange accents.
The wheels themselves are wrapped in high-performance Michelin Sport Cup 2 tyres, measuring 265/35 and 285/30, front to back, respectively. In front, the BMW Concept M4 GTS sports enlarged air intakes and a more pronounced front splitter, the latter featuring the same Acid Orange highlight. Elsewhere, a bonnet fashioned out of carbon-fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) is to be found.
At the rear, one is sure to notice the massive, manually-adjustable carbon rear wing. Below that, the Concept M4 GTS is equipped with the marque's OLED (organic LED) taillights. Said technology is, according to BMW, a "new type of light source" that allows for "full-surface and homogenous illumination." All we know is, it looks absolutely brilliant.
Unfortunately, BMW has decided to not reveal power figures for the reengineered turbocharged 3.0 litre six-cylinder engine. However, the highlight here is the adoption of the marque's water injection system that was first seen on the BMW M4 MotoGP Safety Car. The system effectively pumps water into the plenums of the intake manifold, allowing for a lower air temperature.

The result is compression temperature and, to a certain extent the likelihood is engine knocking, is reduced tremendously. All this adds up to more power and torque along with improved engine reliability. What's even better news is that BMW has said that these technologies are "destined to make their series production debut in a new model to be unveiled at a later date."
Aside from that, BMW Concept M4 GTS also features an upgraded cooling system that is comprised of its main radiator along with auxiliary units for the high- and low-temperature circuits, transmission and turbocharger. Should be one heck of a driver's car, this one. Watch this space.
