Ford Motor Company and Sime Darby Auto Connexion (SDAC) have announced that the Transit commercial van will be officially launched at showrooms early next month. The Ford Transit, which is being assembled at the Inokom plant in Kulim, marks the restart of assembly operations for Ford in Malaysia.
A proven workhorse with over seven million units sold worldwide, the Ford Transit is currently sold in six continents and 116 markets globally. Ford claims that the Transit delivers a best-in-class combination of fuel economy, power and cargo capacity.
The CKD Transit is the fifth-gen van, which only recently made way for a new model in Europe and North America. It will be available in two high roof variants – the 13-seat Passenger Van and the Panel Van 350L – both powered by a 2.2 litre Duratorq TDCi engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission.

With the Transit on sale, Ford plans to launch a network of specialist commercial vehicle (CV) centres by the end of the year. The Ford CV centres will provide a "world-class standard of aftersales service" as well as extended opening hours to help minimise vehicle downtime and reduce overall cost of ownership for commercial vehicle operators.
Van aside, other new Fords coming to Malaysia this year are the Fiesta Ecoboost, Fiesta ST hot hatch and EcoSport compact SUV. All three were previewed at KLIMS13.
