This, boys and girls, is the new Koenigsegg One:1, the Swedish company's latest and most serious attempt to unseat Bugatti and other contenders from the throne of world's fastest car.
The One:1 in its name refers to its power-to-weight ratio: one horsepower per kilogram. The twin-turbocharged 5.0 litre aluminium V8 produces a staggering 1,341 hp at 7,500 rpm – leading Koenigsegg to call the One:1 the "world's first megacar", as the power figure is exactly one megawatt. Peak torque is 1,371 Nm at 6,000 rpm, sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual clutch transmission.
Elsewhere in the engine bay, the internals of the two turbochargers are 3D printed for the best shape possible without having to deal with manufacturing constraints. The enormous titanium exhaust tip is also 3D printed – in fact, it's the largest 3D printed piece of titanium ever made.
The 1,341 kg dry weight (1,360 kg with full fluids and 50% fuel) is thanks to a full carbon fibre monocoque, which is 40% lighter than the standard – if you could call that "standard" – Agera. The chassis utilises the latest-generation composites, including those used on current Formula 1 cars.
The One:1 is also Koenigsegg's first foray into the world of active aerodynamics. The undersides of the car front and rear and the huge Le Mans-style rear wing can all be manipulated for increased downforce (up to 610 kg at 260 km/h) or reduced drag.
This impressive engineering makes for some astonishing performance. Koenigsegg has not released full acceleration and top speed statistics yet, but reckons the One:1 will go from 0-400 km/h in – brace yourself – around 20 seconds. The company is aiming to reach 450 km/h, which would beat the current fastest car – the Hennessey Venom GT – by 15 km/h, aided by bespoke Michelin Cup 2 tyres rated at 440 km/h.
Braking performance is also spectacular: the One:1 will go from 400 km/h to a dead stop in around ten seconds – despite using the same 397 mm front, 380 mm rear ceramic brakes as on the normal Agera – and it takes just 28 metres to go from 100-0 kmh.
The Koenigsegg One:1 will make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show this week. Six cars will be made, and all have already been spoken for.
