While a recent RHB research report revealed that the next-generation Mazda 2 will arrive in Malaysia by the end of this year, a similar analysis by Maybank (below) is even more telling. The latter states that local CKD operations for the Mazda 3 and Mazda 6 models will commence in the coming year.

The expected timelines are as such: the third quarter of 2014 for the C-segment Mazda 3, and the first quarter of 2015 for the D-segment Mazda 6. Both locally-assembled models will come out of the company's new plant in Kulim, Kedah, which is set to be fully commissioned next month.

Just today, Mazda began production of the third-generation Mazda 3 in Thailand. While we wait for our own Mazda 3 CKD, Mazda Malaysia will sell built-in-Japan CBU models of the C-segmenter, with the official local launch set to happen next week. The hatchback version may be introduced too.

We've covered the latest Mazda 3 quite extensively since its global debut last year. If you haven't already, you can read our Australian drive report of the 2.0 and 2.5 litre variants, or watch our own walk-around video of the Malaysian-spec Mazda 3 2.0 Sedan that's already on sale.
