Mercedes-Benz is readying the high performance version of its new W205 C-Class, as we can see from these spy shots snapped by our European spy phtoographer CarPix. Although it will no longer have a 6.2 litre displacement engine, the C63 brand name will most likely be retained for branding sake. The new car will be powered by a new twin-turbo 4.0 litre V8 engine.
The new V8 shares a modular architecture with the 2.0 litre four cylinder engine found in the A45, CLA45, and GLA45 cars. I suppose that makes sense - a 4.0 litre V8 comprising of 2.0 litre four cylinder blocks installed in a V-bank. But of course that's oversimplifying it. The new engine is called the M177 and is expected to churn out about 480 horsepower.
We hear that this 4.0 litre V8 will have a higher performance variant codenamed the M178 to be installed in the upcoming Mercedes-Benz AMG GT sports car with a lot more power.
