Many people will find the new 2015 Dodge Charger plenty powerful, especially in R/T guise with a 370 hp 5.7 litre HEMI V8. But for the small group of people who want more, there is now an answer for them in the form of the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat.

The "Hellcat" in the name refers to a new 6.2 litre supercharged HEMI Hellcat V8 – which made its debut in the Challenger SRT Hellcat – pushing out a stonking 707 hp and 880 Nm. It's so powerful that owners are given a separate key that, among other things, restricts engine output, forces the stability control on and locks out manual mode to stop happy-go-lucky valet drivers from wrecking the muscle car.

With full performance enabled, the Charger fires down the quarter mile in under 13 seconds and goes it from 0-160-0 km/h in 11.0 seconds. Along with its 328 km/h top speed, these figures make the new car the fastest and most powerful sedan ever. Pushing all this power to the rear wheels is a standard TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission.

Bringing the grunt under control are larger Brembo brakes from the Challenger SRT Hellcat, with 390 mm two-piece discs and six-piston callipers. A three-mode adaptive suspension setup is also fitted as standard, and can be controlled through the Drive Modes function that also manages power output, transmission shift speed, steering and traction control settings.

The increased performance is mirrored in the increased aggression the Charger SRT Hellcat shows on the outside. A new sinister-looking front fascia, Viper-esque bonnet intake and extractors, a large single-piece rear spoiler and a redesigned rear bumper complete with quad exhaust exits have been fitted, and the car sits on 20-inch "Slingshot" forged aluminium wheels shod in 275/40 Y-rated Pirelli P Zero rubber.

Inside, changes are limited to a flat-bottomed SRT-branded steering wheel and redesigned seats with improved cushioning and more comfortable contours. Heated seats and steering wheel, as well as a 900W 18-speaker Harmon Kardon sound system, come as standard.
