Toyota has finally revealed its Vision Gran Turismo concept for the Gran Turismo 6 racing game. The Toyota FT-1 Vision Gran Turismo is a hardcore virtual-only racing version of the stunning FT-1 concept from Detroit 2014 (which is also in the game).

Designed by the same team at Toyota's CALTY Design Research facility in California that was responsible for the original FT-1, the VGT version appears very much at home on the racetrack, with bulging fenders shrouding massive racing tyres, larger air intakes, new front canards and an enormous fixed rear wing. The rear diffuser has also been enlarged with multiple fins, and has been moved further back for cleaner airflow.

As with the "regular" FT-1, no technical specifications or performance figures have been announced for the new concept, but it's safe to say that it will offer performance a magnitude above its street-based sibling.

"Toyota has made a number of fantastic sports cars that have featured in Gran Turismo, but this new FT-1 Vision Gran Turismo is a very exciting addition," said Gran Turismo creator and Polyphony Digital president Kazunori Yamauchi.

The VGT was presented virtually at McCall's Motorwork Revival at the Monterey Airport in California, alongside a real-life full-scale model of an updated FT-1, called the Toyota FT-1 Graphite. The latter is identical to the original concept apart from its grey paint and brown interior scheme, and will be part of a free download for GT6 together with its VGT sibling next month.

Colour us curious, but it seems that Toyota is expanding a lot of effort on a concept car with no obvious production plans. Could the FT-1 really be a preview of the oft-rumoured replacement for the hallowed Supra? And if so, is this VGT concept foreshadowing a GT500-spec Super GT racing version? We certainly hope so...
