LEXUS-ES-FACELIFT-MALAYSIA-SPYSHOTS-0001

Well, well - look at what we have here! Reader Erh Pin has sent in a batch of spyshots of the Lexus ES facelift which exhibits a few units of the Toyota Avalon-based full-size sedan sitting atop a trailer in Port Klang. With such sightings, we can only deduce that the Lexus ES facelift is due very soon for its local launch - order books for the car are already open, with prices beginning at RM259k.

Revealed in Shanghai early this year, the Lexus ES facelift gets marked out from the pre-facelifted variants with the inclusion of a revised front fascia. The marque's trademark 'Spindle Grille' now sports a larger assembly framed by a thicker chrome accent while the headlights possess reworked L-shaped LED daytime running lights along with new fog lamp surrounds.

Elsewhere, the Lexus ES facelift comes equipped with redesigned 17-inch alloy wheels, the hybrid ES 300h receives 10-spoke designs while non-hybrids get 20-spoke units. The rear end gets a more contemporary outlook with a X-shaped chrome detail that pulls the rear lamps and number plate recess together for a more cohesive finish while the tail lamps contain L-shaped graphics.

Inside, the Lexus ES facelift features a new three-spoke steering wheel, a new gear selector design with leather boot and a 4.2-inch TFT LCD colour multi-info display, embossed seat upholstery and a new "Enter" button to complement the mouse-like Remote Touch Interface (RTI). Aside from additional sound-deadening material, the Lexus ES facelift will solider on with the same mechanical bits.

That equates to a a 2.5 litre 2AR-FE four-cylinder engine with 181 hp at 6,000 rpm and 235 Nm of torque at 4,100 rpm in the ES 250 Premium and Luxury. A 2.5 litre 2AR-FXE Atkinson cycle four-cylinder mill paired to a 105 kW electric motor for a total of 202 hp motivates the ES 300h. Unfortunately, we won't be getting the all-new 2.0 litre direct-injection 6AR-FSE mill currently employed in the facelifted Toyota Camry 2.0.

Said mill is reserved only for facelifted ES models destined for the Chinese, Russian and Taiwanese market. Those interested in plonking down for the new ES, take note. Prices, as mentioned, begin at RM259k for the ES 250 Premium while the Luxury variant goes for RM279k. The ES 300h model is priced from RM355k - all prices quoted are inclusive of on-the-road costs sans insurance. Watch this space, dear readers.
