A warehouse in Melaka was hit by fire on August 3, and this has impacted Honda Malaysia's production. The warehouse belonged to Nistrans Malaysia, which provides logistics and warehouse management services to Honda Malaysia (HM). The burned warehouse in Melaka stores all of Honda's CKD parts.
HM says that 90% of the 130,000 sq.ft warehouse was damaged and an estimated 2,500 units of Honda CKD parts were affected by the fire. Because of this, Honda's No. 1 Line at its Pegoh plant had to halt production for four days, while production at the No. 2 Line was affected for six days.
As of now, production on both lines have been resumed and HM will monitor the parts supply situation and analyse its impact on the production schedule.
The fire was put out in five hours and there were no casualties or injuries. Investigations are still being carried out on the cause of the fire.
"We are very sorry to hear about the fire and the loss experienced by our supplier. We are currently working closely with Nistrans to assist in any way possible. Rest assured that we at Honda are working hard and doing all that we can to minimise the impact of this unforeseen circumstance towards our customers," said MD and CEO Yoichiro Ueno.
