Auto China 2014 has hosted the debut of the Citroen C-XR, a concept that previews the first SUV developed jointly by Citroen and Dongfeng. The model will enter a segment that saw nearly three million sales in 2013, up 50% on 2012 - do they mean the B-SUV segment?
After all, Citroen says the C-XR is 4,260 mm long and sits on a 2,650 mm wheelbase. That's only 100 and 112 mm longer respectively than the Peugeot 2008. And it's got Grip Control, too.
The Citroen C-XR concept SUV's double-module headlamps are bridged by a wide chrome chevron grille. Below it sits a rugged-looking front bumper that incorporates a honeycomb intake with MINI Cooper S-style vents at extreme ends.
There are LED DRLs, and a C-shaped side signature provides a striking visual link between the roof bars and chrome-finished waistline. Extended wheel arches house 17-inch wheels covered in All Seasons tyres, and the wing mirror caps and part of the side sills are painted red.
Round the back, you'll see 3D-effect tail lamps and chrome-finished twin tailpipes. We have no interior photos (yet), but Citroen says "drivers are seated in a natural, saloon-style driving position," and mentions a large panoramic glass roof.
The concept's powertrain combines a THP 160 petrol engine with stop/start and a "latest-generation automatic gearbox."
