Elantra Coupe 2

The Hyundai Elantra Coupe is no more, after just two years in the American market. A Hyundai Motor America spokesman told Edmunds that the coupe model has been dropped from the line-up, so that the company can focus on the Elantra sedan and Elantra GT (known as the i30 here). That's PR-speak for unsustainable low sales.

Too bad, really, as it's quite a handsome car, isn't it? Designed at Hyundai's North American Design Center in Irvine, California, the Elantra Coupe was most recently updated with an uprated 2.0 litre direct injection engine with 173 hp and 208 Nm of torque, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.

So with the Elantra Coupe down and out, that leaves the fast-shrinking entry-level two-door market in the USA to the Kia Forte Koup, Honda Civic Coupe and the Scion tC. Closer to home, we don't get any of these models, with only the second-gen Kia Koup looking likely to arrive in the near future. But will there be a market for it? Over to you, dear readers.
