kia mpv new york

Kia has released the first image of its all-new midsize multi-purpose vehicle, which will make its official debut at the 2014 New York International Auto Show later this month. The MPV in question should be the new Kia Carnival, or Sedona, as it's known in selected markets.

The Korean automaker isn't saying anything about its new people mover just yet beyond that it's set to challenge the segment and will have the ability to carry eight passengers and luggage. The sketch offers a rakish-looking MPV, with the brand's familiar front-end design easily identifiable.

Our spyshots reveal a side profile that tapers down slightly towards the rear of the car. The blacked out pillars give the roof a floating effect. The shoulderline also rises after the C-pillar, giving the rear quarter section of the MPV a sleeker look.

When the production version eventually arrives into the market, it'll represent the third-gen of the type. The first-gen Kia Carnival made its debut in 1998, and was sold here - it was also marketed as a Naza-badged Ria. The second-gen Carnival/Sedona, meanwhile, has been around since 2006, so a replacement is certainly well due. More on the vehicle when New York kicks off.
