Cadillac ATS-01

China's obsession with rear legroom in premium cars means that compact execs are well, too compact, which is why you'll find stretched versions of cars like the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Audi A4 in the world's biggest auto market.

Now, GM's premium brand Cadillac is the latest to join the LWB party with an extended-wheelbase Cadillac ATS. The sharp-suited sport sedan's wheelbase has been stretched by 85 mm to create the ATS-L, which will debut on August 15. Pics here are of the standard car.

The Cadillac ATS-L will be built at Shanghai GM's assembly plant in the city's Pudong district. Powered by GM's 2.0 litre SIDI turbocharged petrol engine, 272 hp and 400 Nm of torque is channeled to the rear wheels via a six-speed automatic gearbox.

The ATS made its debut in 2012, freeing up the bigger bodied CTS to focus on the 5 Series/E-Class segment. At this year's Detroit show, Cadillac showed a coupe version of the ATS, the first production Caddy to wear the new company crest that does without the laurel wreath.
