Sam Loo's favourite pick-up truck might be facing some competition from an unlikely rival in the near future, it would seem. Our spy photographers have managed to grab hold of quite a few shots of what looks like the Fiat's upcoming mid-size pick-up truck.

The yet-to-named truck is believed to be a new model under the Fiat Professional brand and is all set to compete against the likes of the Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger and Volkswagen Amarok. Fiat itself confirmed plans for such a model as part of its aggressive five-year plan to boost sales numbers.

Back in October 2014, the Italian automaker previewed a pick-up concept in the guise of the Fiat Concept Car 4 show vehicle at the Sao Paulo Motor Show. The concept itself was based on the Mitsubishi GR-HEV concept - which in turn, served as a preview to the fifth-gen Mitsubishi Triton.

Unfortunately, the heavy camouflage on this mule prevents anyone from even thinking about how the truck might look like. We can, however, deduce that it will ride on a platform that underpins the latest Triton as Fiat and Mitsubishi have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to develop a pick-up truck.

Aside from this Japanese/Italian mix-up, Chrysler has also, reportedly, expressed its interest in rebadging Fiat's pick-up truck as a Ram model for the United States market - presumably as a worthy successor to the Dodge Dakota that went off the market in 2011.
