After months of spyshots, a preview in the form of a concept and some official sketches, the world can finally have its first look at the next-generation 2016 Kia Optima. The car is all set to have its world debut at the upcoming 2015 New York International Auto Show (2015 NYIAS) this April.

From the sole official image here, it would appear that Kia has opted for an evolutionary approach to its styling with hints of the current TF model evident. The familiar Tiger Nose front grille now blends seamlessly into the slightly restyled head lamp units. The lower half sports a set of twin air intakes at each end.

While the aesthetics may appear familiar, under the skin of the 2016 Kia Optima is where things get a tad more revolutionary. For starters, the new car is expected to debut a new hybrid powertrain first previewed on the Optima T-Hybrid concept and more recently on the Kia Sportspace concept.

Which brings us to the next (possible) big deal on the new car - an estate Kia Optima. Judging from the looks of the Kia sportspace concept, we don't see how it would be so difficult for Kia to introduce an estate version of its D-segment competitor since foes such as the Mazda 6 and Peugeot 508 already offer this body style.

Elsewhere, things are slightly more muddled. While no solid information has been divulged regarding the interior, the layout teased on the Sportspace concept does gel well with Kia's intentions to introduce a "more spacious, class-up interior." April can't come soon enough.
