McLaren has revealed the 570S Coupe ahead of its show debut at the 2015 New York International Auto Show. The 570S Coupe is the first model in the British company's Sports Series range and will join its Super Series and Ultimate Series sisters in NYC; the Super Series slots in below the two.
The car features an evolution of the 3.8 litre V8 twin-turbo engine, with 30% of components bespoke to the new model. Engineered by McLaren, the M838TE produces 570 PS at 7,400 rpm and 600 Nm of torque at 5,000 to 6,500 rpm. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a seven-speed SSG transmission. 0-100 km/h is done in just 3.2 seconds; 0-200 km/h in 9.5 seconds. Top speed is 328 km/h.
Speed is brought under control with standard-fit carbon ceramic brakes, fitted behind a new range of forged alloys with Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres as standard - 225/35 R19 on the front and 285/35 R20 on the rear. The Sports Series has its own newly-developed suspension with independent adaptive dampers with front/rear anti-rollbars – distinct from the Super Series – and dual wishbones, with the set up controlled by the familiar Normal, Sport and Track handling settings.
McLaren says that the Coupe is the first bodystyle to be shown in the Sports Series, meaning that a topless one could be on the cards. The 'shrinkwrapped', aero-optimised form incorporates rear flying buttresses that increase downforce, and complex 'door tendons' that direct additional air to cool the mid-mounted V8 engine.
The carbon-fibre MonoCell II chassis has been newly designed with more of a focus on day-to-day usability, offering improved ingress and egress. It weighs less than 80 kg, and the use of aluminium body panels contribute to a dry weight of as low as 1,313 kg, almost 150 kg lighter than its closest competitor, McLaren points out.
The 570S has more everyday usability and space than any McLaren before it, it is claimed. Leather sports seats are standard (racing seats optional) and the dashboard and steering are also leather trimmed. Buyers get a full infotainment system including a new TFT digital instrument cluster that changes configuration according to driving mode, plus a seven-inch IRIS touchscreen, now with integrated climate control.
A McLaren Audio four-speaker system ensures optimal sound quality at the lowest possible weight, but a McLaren Audio Plus eight-speaker system and bespoke Bowers & Wilkins 12-speaker 1280W surround sound upgrade can also be specified.
