You're looking at the most powerful and luxurious production Range Rover ever. Jaguar Land Rover's Special Vehicle Operations unit has come up with the Range Rover SVAutobiography, which replaces the Autobiography Black at the top of the range. It's set to be shown next month at the New York International Auto Show before going on sale this summer.

The SVAutobiography's most powerful engine option has been taken from the Range Rover Sport SVR and re-tuned for its application. The 5.0 litre supercharged V8 channels 550 PS and 680 Nm of torque through an eight-speed ZF auto, propelling the vehicle to 100 km/h from rest in 5.5 seconds and onwards to a 225 km/h top speed. The powerful model features quad tailpipes and gloss-black Brembo front callipers. The SVAutobiography can also be had with SDV6 Hybrid and SDV8 powertrains.

Available in standard- and long-wheelbase forms, the Range Rover SVAutobiography sports new 'Range Rover' bonnet lettering and a Graphite Atlas and polished chrome front grille. Customers can specify two-tone paint comprising Santorini Black for the upper body and a choice of nine colours for the lower body.

New is an optional sliding loadspace floor - made from aluminium and a choice of veneers, the floor extends rearwards to make loading and unloading easier. There's also Event Seating - two rear-facing seats can be deployed over the split tailgate's bottom half. Handcrafted from Windsor leather over an aluminium frame, they'd certainly bring a touch of class to your tailgate party.

The interior continues to exude luxury and exquisite attention to detail. A knurled finish is to be found in many places, including the engine start button surround, rotary dials, foot pedals, plus front and rear centre consoles. There're also new armrest adjusters that are claimed to be easier to use.

The bosses at the back relax in a sea of posh that includes a chiller compartment, powered deployable tables and deep twist pile mohair carpet mats. Solid aluminium coat hooks are incorporated into the rear pillars, while aluminium seat rail finishers top it all off. There's also a leather-covered handbook and polished Autobiography key fob with knurled finish - no stone is left unturned.

The SVAutobiography is actually the first variant of the 2016 Range Rover line-up, and Land Rover has outlined the revisions and enhancements. The SDV6 Hybrid emits less CO2 thanks to calibration changes, while the SDV8 gets stop-start tech to help it deliver 8.4 litres per 100 km and 219 grams of CO2 per km.

Also, depending on market, the availability of All-Terrain Progress Control will be extended to the SDV8, and 22-inch Dunlop QuattroMaxx tyres will be optionally offered for the first time.

The 2016-model year Rangie will also feature new gadgets, including an improved Surround Camera System with better graphics and a rear camera-integrated washer jet, Gesture Tailgate (hands-free operation) and Automatic Access Height (lowers vehicle when parked for easier ingress and egress). Plus, a new InControl Remote Premium allows owners to remotely check fuel level, lock and unlock doors, flash lights or sound horn through a mobile app.
