Volkswagen will introduce its completely-revamped 2014 Polo model lineup at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show, including the updated CrossPolo, Polo BlueMotion, BlueGT and R-Line pack you see here. Curiously enough, none of them feature the facelifted Polo's new headlights and grille.
The new CrossPolo, essentially a high-riding Polo hatchback with rugged styling, gains a new set of 17-inch wheels. The lights, silver-accented bumpers and SUV-style body claddings and roof rails stay as before. Otherwise, it gets the same mechanical and interior updates as the standard model.
New to the range is the Polo TSI BlueMotion – the first petrol-powered VW BlueMotion model. It uses a new 90 PS 1.0 litre turbocharged three-cylinder direct-injection engine, which, paired to an optimised aerodynamic package and low rolling resistance 15-inch tyres, averages 24.4 km per litre.
The Polo TDI BlueMotion has been updated too, with Volkswagen's new 75 PS 1.4 litre three-cylinder turbodiesel unit replacing the older 1.2 litre mill. This one is claimed to do 32.3 km/l on the combined cycle while emitting just 82 grammes of CO2 per kilometre, bettering the old car's 30.3 km/l and 87 g/km.
Slotting below the Polo GTI is the updated Polo BlueGT, which now boasts 10 PS more than before at 150 PS from its 1.4 litre TSI ACT (Active Cylinder Technology) engine. It does 20.8 km/l with a six-speed manual transmission. Looks wise, it wears new R-Line bumpers and rear spoiler with 17-inch wheels.
