A Porsche Macan GTS prototype has been caught completely undisguised by our European spies. The model is attempting to slot into the gap between the base S and the full-fanged tiger that is the Turbo.
In the past, the GTS moniker was used to distinguish slightly tweaked naturally-aspirated Porsches. But now that the entire Macan range is turbocharged, the middle-of-the-range SUV is set to also follow the forced-induction route.
This means that the Macan GTS will either utilise the 3.0 litre V6 engine of the S or the 3.6 litre of the Turbo, but tuned/detuned to produce a horsepower figure somewhere between the two (for comparison, the S makes do with 340 hp, while the Turbo gets the full 400 hp).
Outside, the GTS is a dead ringer for the Turbo, with the larger air intakes with C-shaped inserts as well as body-coloured rear valence. The only feature marking it out are the quad exhaust outlets, which are now circular like on the S, rather than the Turbo's trapezoidal pipes.
The Porsche Macan GTS could make its introduction before the end of the year (Paris Motor Show, perhaps?). A Turbo S version is also set to follow.
