Petronas has used the fever surrounding the upcoming 2015 Malaysian Grand Prix to its advantage by unveiling the latest addition to its lubricant line, the new Petronas Syntium with CoolTech, at Suria KLCC earlier today. The new lubricants are the national oil company's flagship passenger car engine oils, engineered to reduce engine heat and maintain optimum engine performance.

Excessive engine heat, Petronas claims, is a common problem – high-stress situations such as traffic jams, hilly roads and high-rev acceleration are regularly encountered in everyday driving. These can drive up temperatures deep inside the engine – which doesn't show up on the temperature gauge in the instrument cluster – and can put a strain on the powertrain, damaging critical components and reducing performance.

"Petronas Syntium with CoolTech is uniquely engineered with strong oil chains to effectively absorb and transfer excessive heat from critical engine parts," said Petronas Lubricants International (PLI) MD and CEO Amir Hamzah Azizan. "By stopping engine-damaging heat at its source, drivers can be assured of optimum driving performance."

Through increased heat dissipation, the benefits of the new CoolTech lubricants are said to be threefold – firstly, they prevent engine failure by protecting key components from temperature-induced wear and tear. Secondly, they delay the thickening of oil by resisting oxidation, ensuring optimum lubrication. Finally, they maintain optimum engine performance by reducing harmful deposit buildup.

As a result, the engine oils are claimed to provide over 70% higher resistance to cam wear, over 60% higher oxidisation resistance and over 30% better protection against piston deposit buildup.

"Petronas Syntium with CoolTech delivers exceptional oxidation stability to protect the engine and ensure minimal oil thickening as the consequence of high operating temperatures, while ensuring lubrication of critical engine components, thus preventing detrimental wear and tear," said PLI COO Eric Holthusen.

These lubricants leverage on Petronas' 20 years of technical experience in Formula One, cumulating in the Mercedes AMG Petronas team sweeping the drivers' and constructors' championships last year in a incredible display of dominance.

"Engine oil plays a critical role to manage the engine's temperature and prevent heat-related damage," said Mercedes AMG Petronas driver Nico Rosberg. "Petronas Syntium proved to be a winning formula for us in 2014. Equipped with a unique formulation, it protected our engines against extreme temperatures and maintained optimum engine performance."

Petronas Syntium with CoolTech will be phased into the Malaysian market, beginning with selected Petronas stations and LubeXperts workshops, and will be available nationwide from May onwards.
