The emergence of cracks as well as deposition of sedimentary soil along the left lane of the Sultan Iskandar Highway (formerly Jalan Mahameru), in particular the portion of road just after the Jalan Damansara-Jalan Parliament turn-off, has caused the closure of said route as of 8 pm yesterday.
Che Shaari Abdullah of the Wangsa Maju Fire and Rescue department, told Bernama that the cracks first surfaced at around 2 pm yesterday due to road repair works. "The affected section of the road about 3 metres by 4.6 metres, was a risk to road users with the road sinking and worsening cracks because of the rain this afternoon."
"We created a detour from Parliament to enter into the city centre for vehicles heading south," he said. Currently, the said portion of the highway remains closed to the public as works to rectify the situation are still ongoing. "The road will reopen when it is no longer a danger to road users," added Che.
