It appears that the Subaru Levorg will finally break away from the confines of its home market of Japan – the automaker's UK offshoot has announced that the Impreza wagon will go on sale in Blighty in September.
It looks pretty much identical to the JDM model, with sharp WRX-style headlights, large chrome grille, deeply-sculpted front fascia with integrated LED daytime running lights, wraparound tail lights, twin exhaust exits and snazzy 18-inch two-tone turbine alloy wheels.
Sold in sole GT spec, the Levorg is said to be a spiritual successor to the Legacy Tourer, sales of which were discontinued in Britain in 2008 – never mind that the former is a C-segment player, while the latter belongs to the D-segment. Then again, Subaru claims that while the Levorg has similar dimensions to the BP Legacy of that era, it actually provides much more interior space, thanks to improvements in packaging.
Under the bonnet of the UK-market car, you'll find a 170 PS 1.6 litre Direct Injection Turbo (DIT) petrol flat-four sending power through the symmetrical all-wheel drive system via a Lineartronic CVT with six virtual ratios. Do keep in mind that Japanese buyers also get an option of a larger 2.0 litre DIT boxer mill pumping out 300 PS and 400 Nm.
Subaru UK promises a high level of equipment with the Levorg GT, including the brand's latest factory-fitted infotainment system, bespoke sport seats and premium cabin materials, as well as safety kit like blind spot detection and rear vehicle alert. Its engineers also claim that it will be one of the most refined Subarus yet.
