Brabus GLA 2

Brabus has unveiled its complete tuning programme for the Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class compact SUV, encompassing show as well as go.

For the GLA 250, we have Brabus' PowerXtra B25 kit. The plug-and-play module, integrated into the engine electronics, bumps output up from the standard 211 hp and 350 Nm of torque to 245 hp and 385 Nm of twist, giving it a 0-100 km/h time of 6.7 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h.

Something for the diesel lovers is the Eco PowerXtra D3 kit, which administers a dose of steroids to the GLA 220 CDI. The result is 210 hp and 410 Nm of torque - an increase of 40 hp and 60 Nm over the standard car. The century sprint is done in just eight seconds, and top speed is 220 km/h.

At the top of the hill proudly sits Brabus' GLA 45 AMG, fortified with the PowerXtra CGI B45 kit. All out, guns blazing - this one packs 400 hp and 500 Nm of torque, good for a 0-100 km/h time of 4.4 seconds and, thanks to Brabus' V/max unit, a top whack of 270 km/h.

A sports stainless-steel quad exhaust system is available, producing a "sportier but never obtrusive exhaust note", but we're sure that's an understatement. For the GLA 250 4Matic, there's an optional sports exhaust with actively-controlled butterfly valve - you can go from subtle to wake-the-whole-neighbourhood-up at the push of a button.

As if the AMG Line bumpers weren't garang enough, you can have a front spoiler, design elements in the front air intakes, a tailgate spoiler and a rear diffuser insert that cradles the four chrome tailpipes. Standard, Style and Urban Lines can have an off-road-inspired bodykit comprising front and rear bumpers with underguards and a C-shaped element around the front air inlets.

For all models, LED under-floor lighting is available, making getting in and out easier and safer in the dark. This is activated with the keyless remote or by pulling on a door handle.

Now, we get to the wheels. Alloys ranging from 18 to 21 inches in diameter are available, including forged "Platinum Edition" affairs in Monoblock F and Monoblock R designs. These are joined by tyres of up to 225/30 series front and back, supplied by Continental, Pirelli or Yokohama.

Ensuring the GLA sits tight are sports springs which lower ride height by around 25 mm. There's even a "lifted suspension" that goes the other way, bringing up the ride height by about 30 mm in the interests of easier ingress and egress, as well as a more commanding driving position.

The cabin doesn't escape Brabus' magic wand, either - accessories offered range from two-tone stainless-steel scuff plates with optionally backlit Brabus logos, to matt-anodised pedals and door lock knobs, and to aluminium shift paddles.

Where upholstery is concerned, the sky's the limit - the upholsterers can complete the ex-factory leather interior appointments or craft new and exclusive leather interiors with the use of Mastik leather and Alcantara, in any colour. All you need to make sure your GLA differs from the rest? You bet.
