Mazda has confirmed that it will unveil a brand new compact crossover SUV - the CX-3, at the upcoming 2014 Los Angeles motor show at the end of next month. No details of the car are available, with only a teaser image to keep everyone guessing.

Aesthetically, one can expect the car to echo the looks of the Mazda CX-5 with a bolder, more striking look - if the rendering is anything to go by. The grille, aping the one on the CX-5, looks a lot more pronounced with the frames seemingly merging with part of the headlight assembly.

Hopefully, more details of the car will surface as the debut date approaches. The Mazda CX-3 will very likely come with a full range of Skyactiv features - the fifth model in Mazda's portfolio to do so, including the 1.5 litre Skyactiv-G engine that's found in the new Mazda MX-5.

Transmission options would most likely include a manual and an automatic gearbox, with drive going to the front wheels. When it goes on sale, the car is expected to be Mazda's answer to the Subaru XV, Ford Ecosport, Mitsubishi ASX along with the incoming Honda HR-V/Vezel and Nissan's mystery model.

Where the Mazda CX-3 will be assembled is also anyone's guess with three factories on the cards - the AutoAlliance plant in Thailand, the Hofu plant in Japan or the Mazda de Mexico Vehicle Operation facility.
