Earlier on, we reported on the imminent arrival of the Volvo XC60 T6 when a brochure detailing the car was revealed online. Now, Volvo Malaysia has officially opened the order books for the car, with prices starting at an introductory offer of RM315,888 - on-the-road figures without insurance.

The highlight of the Volvo XC60 T6 would be the all-new Drive-E engine, a 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder mill said to develop 306 hp at 5,700 rpm and 400 Nm of torque between 2,100 rpm to 4,500 rpm - up 61 hp and 50 Nm from the T5 variant. An 8-speed Geartronic automatic gearbox sends power to the front wheels.

Official fuel consumption is quoted at 7.3 l/100 km with the 0-100 km/h sprint dealt with in 6.9 seconds. Upgrades over the T5 version include 18-inch Pan Alloy rims shod in 235/60/R18 tyres and an 8-inch Adaptive Digital Display, which are offered as standard.

The system, first featured on the Volvo V40 T5, employs an active Thin Film Transistor (TFT) display unit to project information to the driver. Three themes are available with the 'Elegance' mode giving a traditional, simple layout. 'Eco' mode reflects a green hue and is aimed at encouraging an eco-friendly driving style.

Selecting 'Performance' mode would see the display glow red and the tachometer taking the prime spot in place of the speedometer, which is displayed in the other two modes. An all-new infotainment system, dubbed 'Sensus Connect' is also featured.

Among the functions available include cloud-based services, an improved navigation module with 3D maps, Tune-in internet radio - with 80,000(!) channels and voice control for the infotainment and navigation functions. Being a Volvo, one can expect a raft of safety features to be included.

A new Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection system helps to avoid collisions by scanning the road ahead for individuals who may stray into the path of the vehicle. Should that happen, the car will emit a warning and will be able to apply full automatic braking if driver doesn't react in time.

Driver Alert Control (DAC) is employed to help warn drivers who are suffering from fatigue and as a result, pose a danger to everyone on the road. Lane Departure Warning (LDW) will audibly alert drivers who stray out of their lane without the use of an indicator. Should come in handy on our local roads, if you ask me.

Plenty more safety features are included in the guise of 'Road Sign Information', 'City Safety', an enhanced version of Volvo's 'Blind Spot Information System' (BLIS) and 'Cross Traffic Alert' - which uses radar sensors at the rear of the car to warn the driver of incoming cars when reversing out into the flow of traffic.

The Volvo XC60 T6 comes with Volvo's 5+5+5 coverage plan - which includes a five-year warranty, five years of free service and five years of access to the Volvo On Call roadside assistance programme. Five colour options are included - Twilight Bronze, Ice White, Electric Silver, Seashell and Ember Black.
