The new plant aims to curb the growing demands of Mazda cars by targeting a production capacity of 250,000 units annually. The MMVO facility is the third global plant to begin manufacturing the new Mazda 2. The first was the Hofu plant in Japan which begun operations in July, followed by the Auto Alliance (Thailand) plant which started assembly of the car in September. "With the start of production of the all-new Mazda2, operations underway at the engine machining plant, and an increase in our annual production capacity, we now have an even stronger production framework capable of supplying global markets with SKYACTIV products of the same high quality level as those made in Japan," said MMVO president Keishi Egawa.
