The new Honda Civic Type R is coming, featuring a turbocharged engine for the first time. In case we've all forgot about it, Honda decided to put an updated version of the last Civic Type R Concept at its Paris Motor Show stand this year, finished in a luminous blue paint.
Honda's claims for the new Type R are bold - it says the new car offers "unmatched" performance compared to all previous Type R cars - this includes Type R versions of the Civic, Integra, Accord and even the NSX.
Under the hood is a new turbocharged 2.0 litre i-VTEC engine producing over 280 PS with a 7,000 rpm rev limit. It's not quite what the last engine could do in terms of sheer revs, but the turbo makes up for it in terms of torque. It's mated to a six-speed manual.
The new Type R will ride on a new four-point adaptive damper system. There will also be a "+R" mode selectable for track driving, which adjusts the engine mapping, steering, and damper system.
Honda intends for the new Type R to break the current record for the fastest front wheel drive lap time at the Nurburgring, currently held by the Renault Megane RS 275 Trophy-R with a 7:54.36 lap time.
