Mazda Motor Europe has released details regarding the European-market version of the 2015 Mazda 2, which will make the rounds around the continent at several events over the coming months before going on sale early next year.
Diesel is the name of the game over there, and taking centre stage is the new low-compression 1.5 litre SkyActiv-D turbodiesel four-pot. This mill produces 105 PS at 4,000 rpm and 220 Nm of torque from 1,400 to 3,200 rpm, while consuming just 3.4 litres of fuel per 100 km and emitting just 89 g of carbon dioxide per km. A six-speed SkyActiv-MT manual transmission is offered as standard.
There will also be three different states of tune for the high-compression 1.5 litre SkyActiv-G direct-injected petrol four-cylinder engine. The base model delivers 75 PS at 6,000 rpm and 135 Nm at 3,800 rpm, while mid-spec nudges power up to 90 PS and torque up to 148 Nm at 4,000 rpm. The top-of-the-range model, on the other hand, sees its power output swell to 115 PS, similar to the engine we're getting.
The petrol-powered versions deliver fuel consumption figures of between 4.9 to 4.5 litres per 100 km and carbon dioxide emissions of between 105 and 115 g per km. A five-speed SkyActiv-MT manual is standard fare on lower-powered models, with only the 115 PS model getting the six-speeder (as well as i-ELOOP), while all but the 75 PS model get the option of a six-speed SkyActiv-Drive automatic transmission.
Elsewhere, everything pretty much remains as on other markets - the same Kodo styling derived from the Hazumi concept shrouds the same SkyActiv-Body that uses more high- and ultra high-tensile strength steel than before to bring weight down to as low as 970 kg.
The company's i-ActivSense suite of active safety systems, including Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) will also be made available, along with a head-up display and the MZD Connect infotainment system.
Closer to home, we're also expecting the 2015 Mazda 2 to arrive early next year - including a yet-to-be-revealed sedan model - with estimated prices of RM87k for the hatch and RM85k for the sedan. We've driven the car, and you can read our first impressions from our time with it in Japan.
