If you're familiar with Audi, you'll recognise the 'Sportback' moniker and what it entails. Here at the ongoing Paris motor show, it's been applied to the Audi TT to result in the rather A3 Sedan-looking Audi TT Sportback concept. MQB-based, of course.
Apart from featuring two more doors, the concept is differentiated from the road-going TT by a new front bumper and a mesh front grille. The back, of course, is new, featuring slim LED tail lamps set into an edgy tailgate and two oval tailpipes bridged by a chrome bar.
There are laser high-beam headlamps (instead of the production TT's LED or Matrix LED units) and LED directional-sequence rear indicators, and filling up the flared wheelarches are 21-inch alloys shod in 255/30 rubber.
The Audi TT Sportback concept is 4,470 mm long, 1,890 mm wide and 1,380 mm tall, with a 2,630 mm wheelbase. That makes it longer and wider, but lower, than the road-going TT, with a 120 mm longer wheelbase.
Step aboard and you'll recognise the flat-bottomed steering wheel, triple central air vents and the 12.3-inch TFT LCD they call the Audi virtual cockpit. The centre console runs all the way to the back, separating the two individual rear seats.
Under the bonnet sits a 2.0 litre TFSI four-cylinder engine from the EA888 family. It develops 400 PS at 6,400 rpm and 450 Nm of torque between 2,400 and 6,000 rpm. All that grunt goes to all four wheels through the quattro system and a seven-speed S tronic 'box.
The century sprint is achieved in a smidgen under four seconds, while fuel consumption and CO2 emissions are quoted at 7.0 litres per 100 km and 162 grams per km respectively.
