The Skoda Fabia Combi wagon has been unveiled, coming hot on the heels of the regular Fabia five-door hatch that was shown in August. Both B-segment models will make their world premieres at the Paris Motor Show this week.
Looking very much like a stretched Fabia hatch, the Combi maintains Skoda's sharp, clean design language as seen on the Rapid and Octavia. Weight has gone down by as much as 55 kg over the previous Combi, tipping the scales at just 1,004 kg (without driver) when fitted with a 1.0 litre three-cylinder engine.
The interior has not been shown bar the new, larger boot, but it should mirror the cabin of the hatch. Speaking of the boot, luggage space has grown by 25 litres over its predecessor to 530 litres – or 1,395 litres with the rear seats folded – while the loading floor is now 2 mm wider at 960 mm.
Also retained from the hatch are the 17 "Simply Clever" features, including an ice scraper in the fuel filler cap, a dedicated cradle for a smartphone, MirrorLink connectivity, multiple new storage compartments (including one for a high-visibility vest in the driver's door), a dustbin, a parking ticket holder in the A-pillar, 500 ml bottle holders in the rear doors and a glovebox that can fit a one litre bottle.
Unique to the Combi are a variable height boot floor, a pair of bag hooks in the boot, an optional storage netting system and an optional flexible storage compartment in the boot.
A range of Euro 6-compliant engines consisting of three petrol (75 to 115 PS) and three diesel (75 to 105 PS) are available, mated to either manual or DSG dual clutch transmissions. At its most efficient (the GreenLine model, available in 2015), the Combi sips just 3.1 litres of fuel per 100 km and produces just 82 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometre.
