Toyota has announced three separate recalls involving a total of 1.75 million of its cars worldwide – including some from Lexus – to fix problems involving the braking and fuel systems.
The first issue affects 802,000 units of the Japanese-market Crown Majesta, Crown, Noah and Voxy models manufactured between June 2007 and June 2012 and concerns a rubber seal ring in the brake master cylinder that could cause brake fluid to leak, leading to a degradation in braking performance over time. If brake fluid has indeed leaked, the company will also replace the brake booster.
Toyota is also recalling 759,000 units of the previous-generation Lexus IS (including the IS F and the IS C convertible), GS and LS models as well as the Crown Majesta. These cars – built between January 2005 and September 2010 – are installed with a faulty fuel delivery pipe which may leak fuel, potentially causing a fire.
The third recall is limited to Japan and involves 190,000 units of the Corolla Rumion and the Auris built between October 2006 and October 2014. On these cars, the fuel suction plates may also leak fuel which can lead to a fire.
Overall, Toyota has said that it was "not aware" of any crashes, injuries or fatalities that have arisen from any of these three defects.
Out of the cars affected, only the Lexus IS, IS C, GS and LS were sold in Malaysia. We managed to contact Lexus Malaysia, who told us that the affected number of cars was less than 250 units, and that it will contact owners directly for further action.
