Export of the 2015 Mitsubishi Triton from Mitsubishi Motors Thailand's (MMTh) Laem Chabang plant has commenced. The second-generation truck was unveiled in Thailand late last year and boasts an all-new 2.4 litre diesel MIVEC mill with a variable geometry turbo (VGT) producing 182 PS and 430 Nm of torque, paired to either a six-speed manual or a five-speed automatic gearbox.
Designed to be the "ultimate sport utility truck", the 2015 Mitsubishi Triton will hit the shores of the Philippines first before being introduced in several other ASEAN nations. Following that, units of the new Triton will be exported to the Oceania region, the Middle East, Europe, Africa and Latin America.
The Laem Chabang plant has the largest production capacity of any Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) plant with a total production count of 3.5 million units to date. "Thanks to the Thai government's consistent policies on fostering the automobile industry here, we have achieved growth and expansion with Thailand positioned as our pickup truck production and export hub," said Tetsuro Aikawa, president and COO of MMC.
