Volkswagen's Passat Alltrack has been updated to the latest B8 generation, and will go on sale in Europe by end September. It will make its public debut at the upcoming 2015 Geneva Motor Show.

The Passat Alltrack basically competes with other D-segment wagons transformed into 'soft-roaders' by getting SUV-style body parts and a taller suspension. Its competitors include models like the Peugeot 508 RXH, Audi A4 Allroad and the Volvo XC70.

To transform a Passat into an Alltrack, the suspension is raised about one inch and the underbody gets some plates for extra protection. Exterior-wise, the car gets plastic cladding around the body including the wheel arches to give it a more rugged look, as well as new roof rails. There's an additional driving mode called Off Road in addition to the normal Eco, Normal and Sport modes.

Drive goes to all four wheels as standard via Volkswagen's Haldex-based 4Motion system. Two petrol engines are available - the 150 PS 1.4 TSI and a 220 PS 2.0 TSI, while diesel buyers an choose from a 150 PS, 190 PS or 240 PS 2.0 TDI.
