Honda has topped Google's Trending Car Brands for Malaysian searches in January 2015, followed by Toyota, Perodua, Nissan and Mazda, in descending order.
'Trending' here refers to search terms that saw the largest increase in the number of searches in that period. It is not to be confused with 'most searched for'. This definition therefore associates it most commonly with new launches.
Honda's dominance here comes as little surprise to us. It only launched one model in Malaysia in January (CR-V facelift), but the mighty HR-V gathered an impressive amount of pre-launch interest. Last year, it made the Top 10 Trending Car Models list in Google's Zeitgeist for Malaysia, and on the day of its launch (February 5), "Honda Hrv" was the top-trending search term in Malaysia, with over 20,000 searches.
Toyota meanwhile, updated two models for 2015 in Malaysia in January - the Vios and Hilux, the latter with a new TRD Sportivo variant. Perodua of course launched the Myvi facelift, while Nissan introduced the X-Trail and Almera facelift. January also saw the local launch of the Mazda 2.
