James Bond may be getting a very cool ride in his next adventure, Spectre, in the shape of the Aston Martin DB10, but he'll have a tough time matching up to his nemesis, who will be piloting a bright orange Jaguar C-X75 in the 24th instalment of the 007 franchise. In the film, set for release in November 6, the duo will race against each other in a "spectacular" car chase sequence set in Rome.
The stillborn hybrid supercar debuted in concept form at the 2010 Paris Motor Show (with jet turbines, no less), before Jaguar announced in 2011 that it was planning to build the car as an £800,000 (RM4.35 million) rival to the Porsche 918 Hybrid, McLaren P1 and LaFerrari. The company promptly cancelled those production plans at the tail end of 2012 due to a struggling economy.
For the purpose of filming, Jaguar will reportedly be ditching the over 850 hp combination of a 502 hp twin-charged 1.6 litre four-pot and a pair of 194 hp electric motors, developed in conjunction with Williams Advanced Engineering. In its place is expected to be the brand's familiar supercharged 5.0 litre V8, producing over 500 hp.
Other cars from the Jaguar Land Rover empire will also grace the silver screen – the 542 hp Range Rover Sport SVR, heavily modified for this application, will make an appearance alongside the monstrous Land Rover Defender Big Foot. The latter was built by JLR's Special Operations division for extreme terrain and feature massive 37-inch off-road tyres, bespoke suspension and uprated body protection.
"This is an exciting partnership for Jaguar Land Rover and an opportunity to demonstrate the fantastic capabilities of the Special Operations team," said Special Operations managing director John Edwards.
Jaguars and Land Rovers have a long history of appearing in Bond films, the last of which being a Defender in 2012's Skyfall.
