The Mazda 5 MPV is set to stop production with no replacement planned, company officials have told Autocar UK. The publication reports that in Britain, five- and seven-seat SUVs like Nissan's Qashqai and X-Trail have taken the limelight away from such MPVs.

Production is being wound down, with only hundreds finding homes annually, Autocar UK reports, adding that once the MX-5 lands in August, the Mazda 5 will be the only non-SkyActiv Mazda on sale in Blighty.

Of course, our Mazda 5 got SkyActiv-ed last year, but it remains an aged model. The demise of the CX-7 and apparent neglect of the big Mazda 8 are also signs of the Japanese carmaker's increasing focus on smaller vehicles. Well, with the CX-5 and Mazda 2's suitability and prominence globally, can you really blame them?
