kia sportage new 1

We've seen plenty of spyshots of the fourth-generation 2016 Kia Sportage, and now the first teaser sketches have been revealed ahead of the new crossover's world premiere at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show.

As expected, the upcoming Sportage will look rather different from the current model we know and love – out goes the single mask-like graphic, replaced by a dual-tier face with the headlights sitting above the signature "tiger nose" grille – a look that's been seen on the Chinese-market KX3. Below the grille sits a downturned lower air intake flanked by large black plastic inserts, the latter housing the fog lights.

Just as apparent as in the spyshots, the new car will feature an evolution of the outgoing car's side profile, with a more rounded "hockey stick" chrome window graphic – the enormous blind spot-inducing C-pillar looks to remain a mainstay. Slim tail lights (with what look like Citroën DS3-style "three-dimensional" internal graphics), a front skid plate and large dual-tone alloys complete the look.

We also get a look at the interior – there's the typical Kia three-spoke steering wheel, as well as a Sorento-style centre console with triangular air-con vents flanking a central touchscreen. Below this, a very BMW 6 Series-esque wraparound console sweeps down to the transmission tunnel, where it meets a rather Audi-like flat gear lever. Looks like a very stylish, driver-focused cabin, then, as we've seen in previous spyshots.

This Sportage is a sibling of the new Hyundai Tucson that was unveiled early this year, and should share the drivetrains, which now includes T-GDI downsized turbo engines and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
